Checklist: booking a show act
A show act can lift an evening: a band, a magician, a dance troupe or a robot performance. The booking is simple; the details around it are where things go wrong.
Before you book
- What moment in the programme is the act for?
- How long should it run?
- Is the content suitable for a mixed workplace audience?
- Can it be adapted to your theme or message?
Technical needs
- Stage size and floor surface.
- Lighting and whether the room can be darkened.
- Power and sound requirements.
- Rehearsal time and changeover from the previous segment.
Robot performances have particular stage and lighting needs; this robot entertainment guide explains what to check.
Fitting the act into the programme
Place the act where the room needs energy, not where there happens to be a gap. After a long meal service or a run of speeches is often better than straight after guests arrive. Allow time for the changeover before and after, and make sure the emcee knows how to introduce and close the segment.
On the day
- A named contact for the performers.
- A clear cue for start and finish.
- A safe area to store equipment.
Confirm any venue fire and safety rules with the venue and the Singapore Civil Defence Force.
